Yes, but the results may not be realistic and the process is not generally economically feasible. With a digitized image, you can “cut out” the subject and then paste in a background. But, the process of cutting out the subject and smoothing the edges is difficult and time consuming. It becomes virtually impossible when foreground and background props are involved. Without great effort, the end results look “cut out” and pasted. The subject doesn’t get to see the results until it’s done and it can take a considerable time and effort to do a single print. Plus, no photographer would ever so this for every proof so the subject has to select an image without seeing the background until it is done.
